Vehicles in Germany's City Discovered Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Authorities stated they were alerted by a man who discovered a car in Hanau covered with red-colored liquid

Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.

Officers say they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.

The liquid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.

Officers then located many other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Police state early analysis show the substance was probably blood from a person.

"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they commented.

City officials said they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the residents for tips.

A high-ranking representative said the attack rendered him speechless and had to be solved promptly.

"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
