Tehran Says It Might Resume US Nuclear Discussions if Treated with 'Dignity' and 'Honor'
Tehran is willing to reinitiate atomic talks with the United States provided that it is approached with "dignity" and "honor", Tehran's top diplomat has stated.
The Iranian diplomat said only diplomacy was effective, and disclosed new appeals had come from intermediaries to restart negotiations with the American leadership. He asserted Iran did not have secret atomic facilities, and Iran had not yet reached a point to permit the global atomic watchdog to access struck enrichment centers for security reasons.
Navigating a Challenging Path
Araghchi is navigating a challenging path since Iran aims to avoid be perceived to be operating from a stance of weakness, and he insisted repeatedly that Iran had come out more powerful defensively and emotionally from the coordinated strike on its enrichment centers in June.
He was speaking at a defense forum in Tehran where he reaffirmed that Iran had "an inalienable right to enrich uranium on home soil that it will never give up" – the primary cause of the deadlock in the earlier negotiations.
Prior Discussions Unexpectedly Ended
The prior phases of negotiations between the United States and Iran were concluded unexpectedly and hostile conclusion on 12 June when Israel, with US support, attacked Iran's enrichment centers in a fortnight-long engagement that concluded with the American leader claiming the sites had been obliterated. Afterward, Western states exercised their authority to reimpose international penalties, but Iran maintains they have not had a significant effect.
Ideal Resolution Suggested
Tehran representatives stated they felt they had attained a "ideal resolution" to the uranium processing matter in previous talks, when it was settled an Iran-based consortium with US participation could enrich uranium. Both sides would have been able to assert triumph since domestic enrichment would have remained and the US could be certain that Iran's atomic project was entirely non-military.
It had not been settled in the talks that American atomic experts could function inside Iran, but that was a natural consequence of the consortium proposal. Representatives stated three times they had achieved a deal with Washington's diplomat the American negotiator only for the deal to fall apart due to "spoilers in Washington".
Present Situation
Iranian officials stated the partnership proposal was now no longer available, but it seems highly likely the proposal could be revived in some form if discussions reopen.
Trump in recent days said he had been obtaining communications that Iran desired to restart talks, but privately Iranian officials say they are not yet receiving consistent overtures from Washington either straightforwardly or from important Middle Eastern intermediaries, such as Qatar, the Egyptian leadership, the Omani authorities and the Saudi kingdom. The Iranian foreign ministry has been accused of inactivity in the aftermath of the US president's straightforward manner, but Tehran states dialogue is not part of a spectacle.
Diplomatic Standpoint
In his remarks to the gathering, aimed to paint the US as a controlling nation that misuses the notion of global regulations, Araghchi said the 12-day war showed the dispute could not be resolved by armed force. He stated the attacks commenced with a US demand for an complete Tehran capitulation and culminated with an absolute demand for a halt to hostilities.
Iran is certain the initial Israeli attacks were executed with complete American awareness and collaboration, making confidence hard to reestablish.
Dialogue Remains the Final Solution
The foreign minister stated: "It was not Iran that had deserted diplomacy; it was America and the Western nations that had always sought to impose their will during the talks. Negotiations can still be active and remains the primary resolution to address disagreements, but its requirements, regulations and principles must be followed."
"Provided that they talk to the nation of Iran with the language of respect and honor, they will get a answer in the equivalent tone."
Recovery and Recovery
In what is described by Tehran representatives as the struggle of repair and rebuilding, the foreign minister stated he was confident Iran's security strengths "have significantly improved than preceding 13 or 14 June of this year. Every aspect of our defense have been rebuilt. We learned multiple understandings from this war; we have discovered our personal limitations and the shortcomings of the enemy."
He continued: "We successfully passed this engagement. Our enrichment knowledge, which they aimed to obliterate, continues to exist. The installations and gear, if eliminated, will be restored; what is important is the will of the Iranian people and then the social solidarity that they aimed at, but were unable to destroy. The citizens of Tehran have grown stronger, more cohesive, and more endorsing of the administration and the state in the wake of this invasion."
