19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player claimed his initial title for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging period, managing just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-time coach Cervara.

Now training with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

It is the player's first trophy following the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt since that period of the previous year.

Success also means Medvedev has secured twenty-one victories at 21 distinct events.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my children simultaneously, so to secure a title is particularly special," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his previous six title deciders, featuring in that event in the past months.

His defensive approach and recurring emotional displays on court had led some to wonder if his capacity to play at the elite level was over.

Yet the player has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play positively, reinforced by an better serve.

He came back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the last five games to gain the advantage.

Both players traded breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a final set.

He defended 4 early-game break points in a tight deciding set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner earned the title with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
