Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the points lead from Piastri by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his team followed a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, though minor, when he rotated at corner four during the early running.
Tsunoda slid over the track edges before spinning across the gravel trap, and was blessed to get away with just a slight brush of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner leading to the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, 0.619secs off Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
