A person who laced candy with sleeping medication and provided them to children at a summer program in the region has confessed to sexual offenses against two young males who were nine and ten years old.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight children and an older person became sick at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The elderly man, from that region, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

Nevertheless, he denied a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old child.

The accused was remanded in custody ahead of a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, detailed Ruben's offending to the court.

She stated his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer program which he managed.

The man conducted a "treat game" with the minors, the legal counsel said, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".

She told the court Ruben had played this game with the boys "repeatedly", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She said the man had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had concerns in recently.

Mrs Prior KC stated further: "Recently" his family member had concerns about the activities, with valid cause.

"They chose" to have a look in the man's possessions."

The legal counsel explained items including infant oil, Vaseline and syringes were located, and his family member contacted the police about his suspicions.

She explained the defendant continued to play the "candy game" with six children that time - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the next day.

"Authorities" had not gone out by that point," she stated further.

The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was examining the police response of the events.

The legal representative explained the minors were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the stepson contacted the police again.

She explained the man then played the "treat game" in a space of five children.
